Mkhitar Sebastatsi

Mkhitar Sebastsi was born in the city of Sebastia on February 7, 1676. He was a church figure, writer and Armenologist. Sebastian’s parents gave him the name Manuk. When he was ordained a deacon, he changed his name to Mkhitar. He was the founder of the Mkhitaryan Congregation. Sebastasi’s work “Dictionary of the Haikazian Language” (2 volumes, 1749-69) is a great achievement in Armenology, which is still of exceptional value today.
